Usually a percentage of the sales they recieve. Many sites will have a section (usually at the bottom of the site) to allow other webmasters and marketers to market their products. This works for both the producer as it gets their product out to a wider audience and they only pay for the results it brings and works for the marketer as they don't have to outlay any real costs. Some sites have a collection of business under their banner that you can market from one "umbrella" site.
